Breakfast Cereal Infuriates Parents
Scottish parents spotted a character named “Big Baws” on boxes of chocolate flavored Weetos. Their anger has resulted in Weetabix vowing to change it.
A breakfast cereal aimed at children has a cartoon character called Big Baws on the packet.
Parents complained when they spotted the offending name on the back of chocolate flavoured Weetos boxes.
And now makers Weetabix have agreed to change it.
One parent said: “My six-year-old started chirping on about Big Baws the other morning. I nearly fell off my seat.”
“When I found out it was this character on the breakfast cereal box, I was very surprised.”
“It’s not appropriate for something which is so clearly aimed at children. But it is funny.”
Another parent added: “I was getting my boys’ breakfast ready this morning and I noticed it.”
“I nearly choked on the cereal and my wife thought I was taking the mickey.”
The Weetabix Food Company claimed the Big Baws character is a play on words for “Big Boss”.
A spokeswoman said: “We now understand that this phrase might also be interpreted in a different way in Scotland and are working on amending the pack.
“We are sorry if this has unintentionally caused offence in any way.”
The character is part of Weetos’ Moustache Combat promotion, which features five moustache characters. Each is a character in a game which can be played on the Weetos website.
Big Baws is described as being “as tall as a mountain and strong as a bear”. Players are warned: “A word of advice – keep out of his way.”
