TransLingua sponsors Intercambio’s Comedy for Cambio

On March 11, 2015 TransLingua sponsored Intercambio’s Comedy for Cambio event, a multicultural stand-up comedy show with the funniest and edgiest comedians of different ethnicities, cultures, religions, and sexual orientations from around the U.S.. Comedy for Cambio is a fundraiser for Intercambio, an independent nonprofit organization that has served over 10,000 people throughout Boulder County since its inception in 2001. It fosters respect and friendship across the Hispanic and North American cultures through educational opportunities and intercultural events like potlucks, camping trips, sports days and their annual La Fiesta World Party.

Translingua’s Co-President Ilaria and Sales & Marketing Manager Amy attended this year’s benefit at the Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder, Colorado. The cocktail reception featured delicious tacos and other Mexican fare from Centro Latin Kitchen, beer from Left Hand Brewery, and wine as well as other drinks from Hazel’s Beverage World. Besides the comedy show, there were silent and live auctions, raffles, and interactive games.

This year Intercambio exceeded its fundraising goal of $75,000 and raised enough money to provide English classes for more than 1,000 students this Spring. In 2015 Intercambio hopes to:

  • recruit and train 250 new volunteers to teach English classes to 1,200 adult immigrants in one-on-one and group settings across Boulder County;
  • support 50,000 English language learners by providing life-skills focused English Language Curriculum at a reasonable price to 500 organizations in all 50 states.

TransLingua supports Intercambio’s beliefs that communities are safer and stronger when everyone can communicate, and that begins with language. Educating parents leads to an educated family, and our communities are more prosperous when everyone has the opportunity to succeed and give back. We were happy to participate in this year’s Comedy for Cambio event, and we look forward to continuing our work together with Intercambio to promote intercultural communication and understanding.
